Living the Green Way

Living the Green Way is a two day programme of events, Friday 9th and Saturday 10th June, supporting and encouraging people to live 'greener' lives.

There will be talks, a market with local produce, cycle training, storytelling & crafts, health & fitness, community gardening, recylcing, cooking and a community clean- up.

EastSide Arts has developed a quirky pilot project called EastSide People’s Pharmacy. Supported by Hewitt & Gilpin Solicitors, the project encourages local residents to create and contribute pieces of art, craft and other small, meaningful items which will be collated in a purpose-built pharmacy installation. The pharmacy will be open on Saturday 5th August at C.S. Lewis Square. People will be able to visit the pharmacy and receive a “social prescription” created by another east Belfast resident.

Last month Connswater Community Greenway in partnership with Belfast City Council asked the public to come forward and name the following:

1. New bridge at Connswater Shopping Centre & Retail Park

2. Link from Ladas Way to Castlereagh Road

3. Play park at Loop River Park

4. Link from Ladas Drive to Montgomery Road

5. New bridge at Alexander Road

Final CCG section is open to the public

It’s been an incredible 10 year journey and today, 25^thApril, Connswater Community Greenway reached a turning point in this transformative project; the opening of the final section through Connswater Shopping Centre and Retail Park to Flora Street Walkway.

Artful Ageing Dance Workshops

This 10-week project, delivered by EastSide Arts and supported by Arts Council of Northern Ireland is aimed at breaking down isolation, loneliness and promoting well-being amongst older residents of east Belfast.

Taking place at Dee Street Community Centre, the free drop-in dance workshops with Anthea McWilliams will encourage participants to get active and learn some new dance skills.

Final CCG section to open

The final section of the Connswater Community Greenway will open on Tuesday 25th April.

This section will create a new access to Flora Street Walkway (Avoniel Park) from Connswater Link (Connwater Retail Park).

If you would like to join us in walking the new section, to celebrate its opening, please meet at the McDonald's entrance (to the Greenway) off the Newtownards Road at 10am.

Introducing our new Chair

We are delighted to announce that Andrew Hassard has become the new Chair of EastSide Partnership.

Andrew takes on the role following the resignation of Mervyn Gibson who served as Chair for five years. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mervyn for his committment to the Partnership in the role of Chair. We are pleased that Mervyn will remain on the board as a community representative.

Andrew was previously Director of Parks and Leisure for Belfast City Council from 2007 until his retirement in March 2015.

Connswater Community Greenway is asking the public to come forward and name new bridges, links and parks ahead of the opening of the final section of the Greenway at the end of April.

This process has proven popular already with the public naming various bridges including James Ellis Bridge, Sam Thompson Bridge and Grace Bannister Bridge and Marshwiggle Way, the pathway which connects Braniel to Orangefield Park.
