The Christmas Craft Fair at Skainos, is bringing together groups from across the community who have worked lovingly and tirelessly to produce unique Christmas decorations, tableware, toys and accessories, including hats and scarves, and art for you to buy and enjoy this festive season.
C.S. Lewis-inspired characters light up a new public space named in honour of the local author
The magic of C.S. Lewis received a permanent place in Belfast on Tuesday 22nd November. Some of the most famous creations of the world-famous author are celebrated at the landmark Connswater Community Greenway C.S. Lewis Square where seven permanent sculptures based on characters from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe have been unveiled.
EastSide Partnership has commissioned local artist Dee Craig and Canadian artist Irish Nowa to create an artwork for the exterior of the EastSide Visitor Centre.
The artwork has been designed and work is well underway to complete the piece which will be installed on the white exterior wall of the centre.
The much anticipated C.S. Lewis Square, part of the Connswater Community Greenway, will officially opening on Tuesday 22nd November, 6-7pm.
The opening event will include the unveiling of 7 new sculptures created by Irish artist Maurice Harron which are based on characters from Narnia characters. They include the White Witch, Mr & Mrs Beaver, Aslan, Maugrim and more...
Last month the Connswater Community Greenway gave the public the opportunity to submit ideas and suggestions to name the two bridges at Dixon Park, one bridge at Abetta Parade and one bridge at Flora Street Walkway.
Hundreds of locals flocked to a new section of the Connswater Community Greenway on Saturday 22nd October to celebrate the opening.
The new section, which connects the Beersbridge Road to Grand Parade, includes the ‘green heart’ of the Connswater Community Greenway – The Hollow. A meeting point for Knock, Loop and Connswater Rivers and the location of the historic Conn O’Neill bridge, The Hollow is best known for the reference made to it in the song ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ by local musician Van Morrison.
Arguably one of the most influential writers and thinkers of his day, C.S. Lewis (or Jack to his friends and family) was not only born and bred in East Belfast but his influence and legacy is still very much alive across the EastSide today. From 18 – 22 November EastSide Arts will mark the impact of this literary great by celebrating his life and work through the C.S. Lewis Festival. Now in its fourth year, the Festival will showcase Lewis’ diverse works, his legacy as well as his strong connections to his childhood home of East Belfast.
The Connswater Community Greenway in partnership with Belfast City Council is giving the public the opportunity to officially name the four new bridges at the new section of the Greenway from Beersbridge Road to Grand Parade including the Hollow.
