Inspiring Belfast

News

EastSide Arts is getting ready to bring you the EastSide Arts Festival, 11 days of inspiring events from 10th – 21st August. This year the festival programme is packed with 100 events which will be taking place in more than 40 venues across east Belfast as well as in the city centre.  From music, comedy, movies, theatre, talks, workshops, visual art, exhibitions, poetry, events for the young and old, community events and heritage tours plus over 50 free events – there really is something to inspire everyone this year.

A brand new section of the Connswater Community Greenway is now open to the public.  Marsh-Wiggle Way is a new one kilometre cycle and pedestrian link connecting Orangefield Park and Clarawood to the Braniel. Following a recent public campaign, Marsh-wiggle Way was named after the fictional frog like humanoid marsh-dwellers found in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, written by east Belfast Author C.S Lewis.

Bridges Family Practice on Newtownards Road has undergone a major redevelopment to become a state of the art facility thanks to £1 million funding secured by Landmark East (now EastSide Property) from The Northern Ireland Executive’s Social Investment Fund. A vital community asset, Landmark East celebrated the completion of the building today and launched ‘Starlings’, a specially commissioned artwork for the building.

Local artist Deirdre Robb, from Creative Exchange Studio was commissioned by EastSide Partnership to develop a piece of art for the new Bridges Family Practice building exterior on the Newtownards Road.

The new Connswater Community Greenway section connecting Clarawood to Braniel opens on Friday 27th May 2016 from 1pm to 4pm.

Everyone is invited. Come walk the Marsh-wiggle Way with us and look out for arts, crafts, music, wigwams and more...

Van Morrison
We are delighted that EastSide Arts has been shortlisted for a Northern Ireland Tourism Award 2016 in the Best Event/ Festival category for the Van Morrison: Live on Cyprus Avenue event in August 2015.

Visual Artists Ireland, in association with EastSide Arts, invite you to attend this event to find out more about the visual arts exhibition spaces, studios, resources and collectives in East Belfast.

This networking and information event will be an excellent opportunity to meet other artists and arts organisations in an informal setting.

Earlier this year the EastSide Partnership, in association with Belfast City Council, launched a campaign to name three bridges and a major new pathway as part of the Connswater Community Greenway. The public put forward their suggestions and a panel of judges then selected the top 2 under each category which went out to public vote last month.

Last month the Connswater Community Greenway in partnership with Belfast City Council gave the public the opportunity to officially name major links along the Greenway including three bridges within Greenville Park and Orangefield Park, and a major new pathway that extends from Orangefield Park to Braniel.

The judges met and are now asking the public to vote for their favourite. To view the options and to vote visit the Connswater Community Greenway website

EastSide Partnership offices will be closed for Easter on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th March.

May we take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Easter.
